Chicago Sun-Times -- Illinois State Rep. Monique Davis now says she’ll give back the $25,000 African slave statue that mysteriously disappeared from Chicago State University and ended up in her office. The legislator from Chicago’s South Side subsequently said she’d seek a legal opinion before relinquishing the 400-pound, bronze
sculpture of topless, whip-scarred female slave that Chicago State had commissioned and wanted returned.

Chicago State officials say the statue, which was purchased with state funds
intended for a student financial aid office that no longer exists, disappeared from a warehouse where it subsequently was kept.
